Dental Veneers
Everyone today wants a beautiful smile and they deserve it! You do not have to have suffered any type of trauma or need a million dollars in order to have the teeth that you want; today, we are able to offer dental veneers as a simple way to enhance the appearance of your teeth. Dental veneers are a simple, cost-effective, and successful way to fix many different types of problems that occur with oral health, whether due to trauma, aging, or other common issues.

Who is a good candidate?

There are many patients that are able to enhance the appearance of their teeth with dental veneers. The typical patient will be one with minor dental issues, such as stains that cannot be fixed with professional teeth whitening, gaps in the front teeth, misalignment that cause a crooked smile, or simple wear and tear from every day use. If you do not have excessive decay, gum disease, or other harmful oral health conditions, you could be a good candidate for dental veneers and get the smile that you want simply and painlessly!

How do dental veneers work?

Dental Veneers closeupThe process to place dental veneers is very simple and one that we perform on a daily basis. The first step is for you to come into the office for an evaluation. At this evaluation, Dr. Nielsen will take a close look at your mouth both manually and with dental x-rays to determine the health of your mouth. We are looking at your teeth as well as your gums, as they both play a role in whether or not you will receive dental veneers. If you have issues such as gum disease or any type of loss (gum tissue or bone), you will not be able to receive dental veneers because they would not be stable. If you do not have any of these issues and your teeth are mildly damaged or worn, dental veneers are a great way to fix the imperfections.

After we evaluate the health of your mouth and determine that you are able to get dental veneers, we will create molds of your mouth. These molds are used to send off to the lab that will make your veneers. Dental veneers are pieces of porcelain that are placed over your enamel. These pieces of porcelain need to be made to fit the shape of your mouth, which is why impressions are necessary. The lab will create veneers that fit perfectly in your mouth, making it easy to close your mouth as well as match the appearance of your teeth.

Once the veneers are created by the lab, it is time for us to place them! This process is non-invasive and simple. There is also no recovery time, which means you can go about your normal life after having them placed. After we place the veneers on your teeth, we will wait to make them permanent until we know that they fit well, meaning that you can close your mouth with ease and that you love the appearance. We will make sure that the veneers are properly shaped in order to ensure that they fit well with the rest of your teeth, making it near undetectable that you have veneers at all. Once you are satisfied with their appearance, we will make them permanent by bonding them to your teeth.

Caring for Dental Veneers

Caring for your dental veneers is similar to the care you would provide your natural teeth. You must practice proper oral hygiene, which means brushing your teeth once in the morning and once at night. It also means flossing in between each tooth at least once a day, preferably at night. This will help to remove all bacteria from your mouth that could cause staining. It is important to remember that dental veneers cannot undergo any type of tooth whitening process, which means that once they are stained, they are stained for good. Other ways to properly care for your dental veneers include eating a proper diet that is full of fruits and vegetables and drinking plenty of water throughout the day to ensure that all food debris and bacteria is removed throughout the day. As an added benefit, drinking water helps to increase the saliva production in your mouth, allowing you to have optimal oral health.
